Flow is a mental state that can occur while playing games. It's characterized by deep absorption during challenging activities that have clear goals and provide immediate feedback. They say it happens at a point of equilibrium between frustration and boredom (if the level of challenge is too far below the skill level of the player, you get boredom, and if it's too far above, you get frustration). This is why games with gradually more difficult levels keep players interested as their skill levels improve.
In a perfect flow state, the player loses all sense of self and time along with the diminished importance of other activities, including responsibilities (like your job, school, errands, cleaning up the house, self-care activities like hygiene, sleeping, etc.).
