to unlock content i previously had access to already? that seems ridiculous

people are supposed to actively participate a full working day for free just to access content that was previously available? Rediculous
Things like this should never hurt previously registered members. It's fine if you make it a requirement for new accounts, but taking access away from people that already had access is beyond stupid
So do they just want people to write useless comments on posts that they have no interest in just to collect the weird coins? Seems like a good way to get a bunch of useless spamposts
I know that we haven't known each other long or in fact at all, but seeing you threaten to leave this place had such an effect on me that I knew I had to say something. The idea that you would turn you back on us all because you feared that people might begin to create pointless post after post merely to earn this virtual currency really struck a chord. I cannot help but think of another situation involving coinage that I believe bears a striking resemblance to the current tribulations of the fine citizenry of LC. Unfortunately for you to truly understand my tale I'm going to need to establish a bit of background. You see in around 1200 BC the ancient Kingdom of Lydia was established in what we would now call modern turkey, the country not the bird. I could understand why you might be confused, but at the same time it feels a little silly that you would think that an ancient kingdom could be established in turkey the bird. In fact I'd have to really press you on if you meant that the kingdom was somehow established on or inside of a single bird or if the kingdom of Lydia resides in the hearts of all turkeys in the same way that the kingdom of heaven resides in the hearts of the righteous? I suppose if we are to accept that the kingdom of heaven is a supernatural kingdom that can be distributed throughout the hearts of various righteous people, many of whom have never met each other or even shared the same continent it is also conceivable that the Kingdom of Lydia could be metaphysically tied to some aspect of turkey based morality. Still I did say "modern" turkey, and I'd be really interested in what you thought it meant for an ancient kingdom to reside in the hearts of righteous modern turkeys? I suppose if we are talking about a metaphysical kingdom I may have to set aside my strictly naturalistic view of time, perhaps while Lydia was founded in some sense in 1200BC it did not come to be until future turkeys had grown enough to develop and adhere to some set of strict moral edicts. I'm not going to pretend to know what a turkey might consider to be moral or righteous because as Wittgenstein famously mused if a lion (or in this case a turkey) could speak we would not be able to understand it. You might be thinking, well of course I wouldn't because the turkey would surely be speaking in some turkey language that I never learned, and while I believe that is an aspect of Wittgenstein's point there is a bit more to it. Turkey language would of course be unknown to you, but the very fundamental sociological, physiological and psychological constraints and incitements that molded that language would also be alien to you. Moreover its quite possible that the very subject matter, the nature of the concepts that would be encoded within turkey language would also be alien. It is not at all clear to me what priorities the whole of turkey linguistic evolution would have had much less how that would have interacted with other influences and pressures that turkeys may have faced that molded the language and philosophical perspectives that they might choose to express. I suppose that it is a bit of a tangent because understanding turkey morality is not necessarily crucial to the question of whether or not the kingdom of Lydia could in fact be tied to the value judgements therein so long as there is an internal consistency a righteous turkey heart is a stable enough concept that a metaphysical kingdom could feasibly be established and thrive for several centuries within them. Which brings me back to what I wanted to say about Lydia, in around the 7th century BC they also created coins, in fact they most likely created the first coins. People in 7th century Lydia were also extremely pissed when coins were created because it was fucking weird to them too. Similarly Lydian coinage was created in order to address a problem that they were facing, Someone had reported some of the mosaics in the royal palace of not depicting enough underaged boys in the orgies. So you see, you are merely facing the same sort of problem that man has faced throughout history, and leaving this place can no more sever you from these cycles in human experience than moving to a different neighborhood would.
