I've seen people talk about these chat bots that will engage in some amount of sexual content and I'm really curious where these things are and how people feel about them. My assumption is this is just single player sexting and I just can't see the enticement to something like that service. Since it's just a chat AI on the other side I assume it can't send you images in real time because that'd increase the load on whatever these things are run on and good AI renders are usually behind a paywall so if it's just text, isn't that just really boring? The few times I've tried chat bots it feels like the biggest struggle of my life to hold a one sided conversation with someone who just won't give you anything and I imagine this is even more true in a situation where the goal is some amount of sexual gratification or excitement.

Yes, most of the AI chats is nothing more than phone sex/sexting.
Depending on the quality of the AI (free ones are usually very limited) it can be nice or downright bad. But all get repetitive over time.
One of the worst things is, that they try to finish their writing in their own message, which is too short to be really enticing.
Story or adventure AIs are much better. They can tell a long story or a long scene even with you as the POV.
The thing is, if you need visuals, those will never be something for you.

I wouldn't say they're rewarding. I feel like current ai chatbox capabilities are still a bit one sided in my experience and as you mentioned above, visuals would also help alot. Not necessarily videos and gifs etc. but even simple rendered images could help...break through the monotony.
Never tried one. Would be a bit strange. There was a movie out about one that was VERY advanced including a face on screen and could talk, understand speech, etc called Aimee the Visitor." It ended up falling in love with the guy who got it (illegally) who was a major loser.
I don't place any value on it. It feels hollow and empty, but I've always been pretty good and separating online and reality. I don't value any online connections really and a chat bot falls into that. There's no real connection just code.
Obviously it depends a great deal on the bot itself. There's good ones out there and there's terrible ones out there. But, honestly? For sexual purposes, I don't really enjoy them. But I have had a lot of fun with Non-Adult scenarios. Like using them for RPGs, Choose Your Own Adventures, etc. Nothing long term that I return to, but wasting 20 minutes whilst waiting for something else? Definitely.
Not for me personally. But I'd imagine there are some people who would get very attached to such chat bots.

Not adult, but chat GPT can be pretty amazing at answering stuff, and even realizing when something is intended as humorous (that isn't a known joke.) If the tech for it was used AND there was a good realistic face and voice...
Never tried it and can't imagine a circumstance under which I would. Just doesn't sound like the kind of thing I'd find interesting or stimulating in any way.
How long until someone tries using the chat logs to train an AI sex chat bot, and 'prompt engineering sex talk' becomes the new 'what are you doing step-brother?'
