Anyone else out there that has a fear of going to the dentist?
I have such a fear that I can't even be there without wanting to flee.

But now I had to do the necessary as the health of my teeth was so bad but I found a good one. They were able to sedate me so I could sleep through the entire thing. In Sweden it was just recently allowed, before you had to go through a psychologist just to get it diagnosed to be able to get sedation and sleep through the entire procedure.

How is it for you guys and in your countries?

I actually don't have a fear of the dentist due to an amazing one I had when I was a child. Man had a dexterity score of like 9,999 and did almost every kind of dental work known to man.

I say that because he gave a me a root canal unsedated, no anesthesia, nothing. I barely knew he was in there, doing work. I was pretty wimpy as a kid, so that's not a nod to like my toughness as a kid, man just had mad skills.

I've not had anyone as skilled since, but I've only had one issue in that time. So no complaints about the US dental system from me, other than the freaking cost.

Don't like the sound of the drill, sends shivers down my spine just thinking on it.

I have had so much dental work done that it is just whatever at this point. It is not bad if the dentist properly numbs you. Root canals hurt, but it is better than losing the tooth.

This! I also hate this nasty smell of it, they said it smells like burning human bodies, like similar one lol

In some countries people are known for their bad teeth this is because unlike most medical staff they are basically like a criminal cartel they will charge you half a weeks wages to even look at your teeth and a full weeks wages for each tooth they remove.
It's also known that whilst they treat the initiative problem they will create another so you have to come back to get treated and they keep doing the same until you are either broke or homeless.
People have lost thousands of pounds to these crooks.
If you turned up for an appointment and you had a real big problem like cancer of the mouth or something and you haven't got the coin they would just toss you out into the street like an animal.
Generally people that I know have to take take of their own business such as extracting teeth from their own mouth using pliers etc.

Well I despise any doctor in any field but they don't deserve it, just because of my fear and a few bad doctors that ruined my experience.

So getting me to a doctor or to even seek medical help is something my family has learned to cope with.

No, but haven't been there since 2000. In the US for many of us, if not most, dental care has become an unaffordable luxury. For those not in the US, regular insurance doesn't cover it - you actually have to get separate insurance for your eyes and teeth (standard medical covers eyes for me, being type 1 diabetic since age 10) Worse, it often only covers cleanings and checkups, not work - which can cost thousands of dollars. Some people are lucky enough to live near a clinic or dental school and can get it done for free there.

Yep it's amazing what you have to pay and finding out while it's covered they don't cover everything.

Also each doctor or medical center only accepts certain insurance and excludes others.

Never had a fear with dentist and doctors. With them, I can be pretty chill and somewhat open. I knew this doctor since I was a kid so all interactions with her like we're close. My cousin is a dentist, having an appointment with her meant discounts.

The medical system in the US is pathetic with people actually going bankrupt because they got sick, and dental is worse. In recent years a lot of dentists wanted to make more money, so they went into cosmetic dentistry which is for rich people to make themselves look better rather than family dentistry. If you're rich here everything is catered to you, if you're poor, you're screwed.

I hate the insurance system which only covers things so cheap you would not need an insurance to pay for them. But more on topic, I do not have a fear of going to the dentist. I did when I was younger, but managed to grow over it.

Yeah, it's like car insurance that only covered inspections and oil changes, or homeowners insurance that only covered looking it over and cleaning the gutters.

Honestly, the worst part is when they try to make small talk while tubes and various sharp pokey things are in your mouth

Worse than barbers.

Horrible, the anesthesia hardly does anything against the pain, my face is numb, but I feel the pain quite a bit, they have had to make few intentions to me, but all of them terrible.

It is good to see that not only I have problem but yes, I hate even the little hook they use as it always gets stuck on my teeth

I had a fear but after I experienced the pain associated with inflammation of the periosteum of the jaw caused by a wisdom tooth, this fear has completely disappeared.

The hygenist was even worse - she'd bitch about your gums bleeding - after poking them with a pointy metal object.
