Does anyone else get fed up with ren'py games that don't feature an "auto" option?
I don't always turn this on, but it's goot to have the choice and give my mouse-click finger a rest sometimes.
Incidentally, is there a generic "mod" that adds this feature available anywhere? Or, how easy is this to modify the files?
Is there a reson why Devs don't always include this in their games?

Usually, I get upset with it when the game save reset and I have to click all the way to get to the part I missed. Though I have a theory that some game with loli or other controversial stuff do this so people who want to report them can't skipped directly to that part, they would have to work harder to find stuff to used against them or give up.

I prefer a quick auto-advance in most text games. Mostly because I scan read everything

Never use auto advance I'd probably get distracted and miss everything.

It depends of the context or situation, but as we know "who can do more can do less". So I agree with you, I like when the option is available.

Definitely required if the writing is terrible and I'm just in it for the renders.

I think they don't include it simply out of forgetfulness since it is not something that most people notice, personally i only use it in games where it is a full story

It's a feature that I don't remember using, but when I tried to use it, it was either very slow or very fast.

Not something I ever use tbh. I rarely give games my full attention, so I prefer the clicking.

I never use it, because I'm a fast reader but I also like to enjoy the art sometimes. So if I set the speed to something fast enough that I am not annoyed, then scenes flick by so fast that if I want to take a good look at a scene I'll miss stuff.
I am ok with spacebarring every frame. What I find much more annoying are things that confuse my flow, such as:
* pointless slow transitions-- only turn those on if it adds something to a specific scene
* Animations that are slow to start or broken up over multiple frames, so you don't know if you're supposed to hit spacebar to advance the scene or not. I have probably accidentally missed many animations because I thought it was one of those dumb "atmosphere" things where the dev wants you to advance the frame multiple times even though nothing changed
* Textboxes whose transparency cannot be changed. Sometimes I need the high-contrast, sometimes I don't want it and would rather get a peek at the goodies behind the text.
* Sprites positioned near the bottom of the screen behind the textbox when there is no need. If there is a pussy happening, I want to be able to see it!

I hope it's added as a feature for those that need it. I never do. I'm slow as fuck to read, so I like to read at my own pace. If it's boring or Engrish... a few extra clicks don't bother me. Heck. I've played Diablo 1 and 2. Those games are NOTHING but constant clicks. AVN's pale in comparison to those.

Again, though, might as well have the feature. It shouldn't be absent just because *I* won't use it...

I feel the same, I really hope someone answers your question about a possible mod.

To those saying the 'auto' function is too fast or slow you can usually toggle the auto forward speed with a slider in the preferences/options menu.

I use the auto forward option more often than not because at a good speed it can feel like you're just watching a show or film, but sometimes it can skip through the animations too quickly or the animations sometimes cancel out the auto forward leaving you in a loop til you hot the space bar. I just wish it felt more fluid if that makes sense. It would also be cool to be able to use a remote or something to select choices so you can just sit back away from the keyboard all together.

I use the space bar... I don't click. And there is not an auto feature that is fast enough for my reading speed... plus I want to linger on some images and not others.. and not always lewds... I never turn on auto.

I don't use it. I've usually got the tv on at the same time so I look back and forth a lot.
I like to rest my hand on the mouse and hit enter with my thumb

I never used the auto option. When updates break savegames i use the skip seen option, but otherwise i read everything except sex scenes and since i mostly do multiple things at the same time and also play at work, i need the text at MY reading speed and be able to minimize the game or focus on something else like phone or mails without missing anything.

I never use auto advance but i can understand those who use it

Sometimes there it is no way to escape it. Many times i got into a game that i loved but the story went to a character that i dont really care and skip it is the first thing i do

i wont turn a game down if its not there but i prefer it to be.
