I can see the appeal and understand why people would go for animation only. But for me I played so many Anime VN's early on that the lack of animation doesn't really bother me at this point.

However i will say its easier to get sucked in when there are animations 🤤

I think this is one of those things that is determined by how well you've exercised certain functions of your brain to be honest. Specifically how well you handle abstraction and being able to see a bigger and wider picture from smaller clues.

If you only get immersed into a game if they have full graphics and animation that's fine, but it also means you're missing out on other media because you haven't explored how to use your imagination to fill in the missing pieces.

Example:
Fully abstract would be a smutty story or novel. No pictures just words on text.
Partially abstract would be a drawing or poor resolution image.
Little abstraction would be an animation.
No abstraction would be viewing it in real life or a video recording.

Fun fact, the higher the abstraction the more niche and extreme content can slip under the radar.

Example:
A written story about underage sex is pretty easy to get hold of. Not fully accepted, but it exists.
Comics and games with still images of underage sex are a bit more sketchy.
Animation regarding underage characters that involves modeling and rigging the motion is a bit harder to justify.
Having an underage sex party or having **** porn is going to get the FBI using a slap charge on your wall because driving a van through the front door isn't damaging enough.

I agree - a lack of animations doesn't really bother me. A half-decent story can more than make up.

from experience I also tend to prefer only animated games, with a few exceptions I have played some non-animated games.

Animation is a double edged sword...
You can have a really good looking game with great graphics, and then they add animations which is just REALLY poorly done.. like the super stiff back and forth pistoning or other dumb stuff - that really kinda breaks the game for me if anything.

So as with all things, only add it if it's actually some good.

But IF done right, animations certainly add something to the game!

I am good w/o anims. What bothers me is bad anims more than a lack of. Just having a bland moving back and forth is more a turn off than a nice still image.

I prefer VNs with animations but it's a relatively new thing to have really well animated scenes. Back in the flash days it was different, games and development evolve though so at some point maybe they'll be more animation than static renders...one can dream.

You're missing out on a lot of good games by filtering out only animated games.

It's hard to say there are games where the art is cool and the animations spoil the entire immersion because they are terribly weak, and there are some where the graphics are average and the animations save the game altogether.

Animated is not really a focus when I pick games, a good image can get me going lol

yeah me to also i cant play hand write game to they just look trash

I play almost everything, I have no problem with that.

Animated is king but to have no animations means the writing/scenario has to be just right,

Prefer games with good quality animation, but if graphics and story are good will play games that have no animation.

I'm a history driven guy buy certainly I do tend to incline towards animated based games
