Online privacy, or how to keep yourself safe in forums and communities

This honestly is fine, as I described it always comes down to your threat model, so keeping the relevant information of these sides and not easily make yourself searchable or reveal the other sources of information this is completely fine. Just don't make it easy to link these sources of...

Online privacy, or how to keep yourself safe in forums and communities

Sandboxing is not bad in general. But I think a lot of what you are writing comes from misunderstood information or fearmongering. Yes there is a lot of risk, but its not quite as big as many people think. Password managers, depending on what kind you are using and how its implemented, can...

Legacy Attachment System Corruption – Partial Recovery and Archive Release

I see where you are going, but that's not really how database formats usually work, to be able to open the db, and being able to still read it. In 99% of cases where an SQL database gets messed up by actual corruption and not the fuck up of the one writing the SQL statement, you will have either...

Legacy Attachment System Corruption – Partial Recovery and Archive Release

Well a working raid1 configuration will be 100% better than whatever was in place before. Would still recommend some kind of extra backup, can be heavily compressed, which is stored in another physical location. Thanks for the update.

Legacy Attachment System Corruption – Partial Recovery and Archive Release

Yeah some kind of home lab for testing would be the right move, or just having solid backup systems, with daily, weekly or bi weekly backups or a RAID configuration. This is I think what surprises me the most, since this is pretty standard.

Legacy Attachment System Corruption – Partial Recovery and Archive Release

I have some technical questions if I may. What was the cause? Corruption of the MBR, faulty/erroring disk, some system service that somehow wrote to boot, a faulty update? Or was it just one of these weird things sometimes happening with some really long running servers that they just seem to...

I wish my cat was that lazy xD Half of my apartment has all kinds of things on the walls for her to climb, hunt and laze around with, and she still needs to have her chance at least once a week to go out with me, or she just gets crazy for like an hour or two usually when I want to sleep. She is...

My offer for teaching some CS or low level things is also open, I will not be a help for python tho. When it comes to datastructures or performance things I can likely also help out there, but not for general python or renpy things.

Now I am waiting in anticipation of some great cat pics :) 1772837987 Honestly, just keep on doing it, I would say programming is when learning something new, always a balance game of getting overwhelmed, learning, and mastering the hurdle. Also, do not try to do too much too fast, you will...

She made a very quiet meow sound as I told her that the internet people find her cute :) So I think she approves. I think in the picture she was very shocked from me actually daring to pull my hand away from her as she was trying to bite it. Her name is Freitag (german for Friday). It's a book...

Its my cat in playing/hunting/killing mode, like 3-4 months after I got her. She is my little princess, also acts like one and is just as demanding for attention. Currently sitting beside me as well :)

That's great to hear, too many people only focus on the small picture and call themselves computer scientist, for a standard programmer many things are not needed, but I think that drive is what brings people really to do this as a passion. Was the same for me. And if you want to go into the CS...

Well we all started somewhere, and I had too much free time in my youth, since I did not spend it socializing much, or getting along with others, had like 1 or 2 friends I spent time with, family life was difficult at the time, and all the other time was used for programming, reverse...

I think my biggest problem is that I did it for years before I started officially working as a programmer, I get way less pay now, which is fine since its basically an apprenticeship, were I am used as an underpaid worker. That was mostly my decision. But the freedom of before, that I could just...

What language will you be using, how far in are you? I really like godot in principle, mostly because it supports multiple of the languages I love (Rust, Zig, Lua for scripting), and of its general model, and relative simplicity. Also what kinda game? A rough idea is enough :)

Honestly, my almost full time git graphs from before I started working, and my git graphs now tell the story of me writing too much code at work, in languages and environments I mostly hate, that I just cant find the drive to write too much code nowadays in my freetime. I also don't know what I...

I noticed I am too bothered by too many bad books I read in recent times, and don't feel in the mood to continue for the time being, nor to start some new random programming project. What do you guys/girls do on your weekends/in your freetime? Trying to find some inspiration.
