No, but there is a point where grinding takes up more then half the game, you have a problem. The biggest problem I have is games requiring multiple playthroughs to get alll the content/relationships. I just don't have time for that

I played these small flash games, my favorite was one with tali zorah. First real VN game I played was Dating my Daughter. I literally learned piece by piece how the VN community worked. By happenstance and googling
Like with all games there is a good way of doing it and a wrong way of doing it. Mostly if the story is engaging and the art (whatever style) is above a certain threshold then it doesn't matter too much.
For me it would be Midlife crisis. Excellent game, good story progression, but the dev has ghosted and who knows when/if we'll ever see a conclusion.
On a happier note the i just learned the developer for Rick+Morty parody Another Way Home started posting again after 1.5 years so that made my day.
