Depends what kind of game, but I would say no less than 3 and no more than 7 or 8 including secondary characters. More than that it falls apart, even if it were technically perfect there's just that many characters I can care about.
I played quite a few in the past, but I don't have the patience for that kind of playstyle anymore. There may be some exceptions that have the roaming around very toned-down.
They could release the best game they ever made and it would still suck anyways. Their switch to IL2CPP makes modding a headache and it would take a long while for the community to build up the foundations, if ever.
