Harem, if avaibly is basically the default route I feel.
There are also very few games that have dedicated non-harem routes, and even the Harem routes often are just an accumulation of one-on-one relationships with the MC, instead of a truly interactive harem.
There are exceptions of course...
What is "the genre" anyway?
AVGs are much more of a broad medium then a concrete genre. Some level of knowledge of their kinks would be needed.
Without such knowledge I'd stick with something more vanilla and/ore pretty varied that is relativly bug free, probably something like SummerTime Saga...
I see Dumb Koala games kinda as "short stories"
The limited scope and length probably makes the writing much easier from start to an actual finish.
Yes sometimes it feels some story is left on the table, but they never feel actually unfinished, like so many other games, that are abandoned for...
I'd say this is what makes Macy such a three dimensional character, at least for an AVG.
She is clearly flawed and struggles to adress her own shortcomings, as well as expressing her own feelings in healthy ways, and if she tries, tends to overcorrect and/or take the wrong lessons from it.
But...
Really good game with decent writing, lots of content and repeeatable scenes (which somehow is pretty rare)
Only drawback really is that it is absollutely gigantic in filesize.
Minigames are usualyl the worst.
If they are short and easy enough, I can tolerate them, but if they prohibit progression, are needlessly hard and/or long they can, and have, make me put down a game.
