If there's a new tech or improvement available to them I'd say go back and re-do or upgrade. If it's already considered good by majority then keep going forward.

These days I definitely wait a few months to a year. A lot of games get rushed for quick bucks. I can make exception for some indie devs that actually pour souls and minds into a lot of their games.
Witcher 3. This game was a long but awesome journey. Knowing the source material and how the game was handled it was awesome. Nowadays I just don't feel like spending over 400hrs again lol
PDF walkthroughs no; in-game hint or green vs red choice absolutely yes. There are some games I just don't want to replay multiple times to see if I guessed right to have a totally different outcome because there are a lot of games which have those totally neutral choices that don't matter at all.
