Personally I'd say 0 is the better starting point, though you'll miss a number of little in-jokes and references from later games. It's just the better built game. The persona games have a hilariously broken difficulty setting so if you ever get stuck, you can just change to easy (or hardcore....) and walk through a fight to continue.
