It depends if you're going 2D or 3D. I find the models a lot of people use for the anime style just inherently look lower quality than the more realistic ones. But I think for 2D games the stylised ones generally appeal more to me.
As someone who's played a *lot* of games over the last few years, RPG Maker games tend to more easily fall into the trap of 'shitty gameplay bullshit getting in the way'. Good RPGM games can be really great, but it seems easier to make a shitty RPGM game than it does to make a shitty Ren'Py...
My excitement at finally seeing Taffy Tales appear in a list like this was immediately gone when I realised what the updated entailed. I thought I'd just lost track of this but it turns out it's just not had great updates for a long time.
