Here are some hints for Ren'Py. Specifics of what you need to do on the desktop may depend on the desktop environment used, such as GNOME or KDE. I am assuming here the default GNOME environment for a modern Ubuntu. Other desktop environments will be similar but not identical. GameName stands...
Adventure
Pacman
Boulder Dash
Tetris
Wizardry - Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
Dragon Quest
Civilization series (except for Civilization 6 and probably 7: way too complex)
Master of Orion
Bloons TD 5 and 6
Depends on the type of visual novel and the quality of the plot. If a VN has a poor plot that just exists to hold the sex scenes together, or if it has an ambitious plot that is a failure and it is only rescued by the porn, then it will suffer a lot if it starts without the porn. But if a VN has...
I really hope that Charlotte will get into the focus at some point. It's inevitable, as we officially don't even know yet that she is a camgirl. And I would really like to see more scenes like the dance lesson. Even if it's just a repeat of that scene after some rule change forbids clothes...
As with all such trends: Initially it was a good think. Now it has become a bad thing and will get worse until customers get so unhappy that it will ruin companies. At that point, some kind of equilibrium will develop, much matter than what we have now. And a new trend will become prominent.
AI isn't quite there yet, but close. And developers haven't learned how to use it best yet. AI is less effort but currently produces poorer results. So naturally it doesn't attract the best developers right now.
It's probably going to take less than a year until AI has advanced to the point...
I am playing You must be registered for see element. and very much enjoying it. (This site is two versions behind. It's actually completed now.) Not sure why I found this so late.
It's very similar to You must be registered for see element. in how there are some very dark things going on which...
The original Wizardry. I had it on Apple II, but playing it on a console simulating a NES is fine. Looking forward to the remake on Steam getting down to a reasonable price. Maybe then I will finally finish it.
I would create shadows in the corners. Unusually dark, black shadows in places where you don't expect them. No specific shapes. The shadows would move, but only when nobody looks.
I was around when they first became popular, and I was around when they went out of fashion. I never liked them. Maybe some people who grew up with them are nostalgic for them?
When it comes to game mechanics: 2D or even 1D (mostly kinetic visual novel). 3D typically does not properly support Linux, typically requires a dedicated video card, and typically has poor visual quality and stability problems. I really don't need that.
When it comes to the style of rendered...
I find it hard to recommend any because in my opinion the best are basically just regular visual novels with some parts that can be done in any order. I don't even remember them as sandboxes because they don't annoy me. For example today I realized that You must be registered for see element. is...
