I've seen people leave negative comments on game threads if a game does not contain any animations, which probably explains why so many devs include animations in their game even though they don't know how to make good ones.
As far as I'm concerned, I'll take a game with beautiful static...
More people need to realize this. AI image generators are just the latest in computer-assisted art. We have barely began to see what they're capable of producing in the hands of experts.
All methods that devs have tried to keep MC's face hidden end up hurting the game more than they help with self-inserting.
Give me an MC with a visible face, and make it at least somewhat pleasant to look at.
This might put me in the minority here, but I don't fap to visual novels, even if the sexual content is god-tier. I know this sounds like a meme, but I actually read them for the story.
So yeah, I rate the story as more important than the graphics.
The more VNs you play, the more overused assets you start noticing. It's actually a curse. I've started noticing overused animations as well, and it's just as annoying.
I would argue that Daz3D and Honey Select are equally capable of producing visual abominations when used by inexperienced devs. Obviously, if the Japanese visual aesthetic is not your cup of tea, you're never going to like anything that was made using HS2, but I feel the need to defend it...
As someone who uses Ren'Py's auto mode a lot, so much this. Every other choice in the quick menu has either a keyboard or mouse shortcut, but auto mode has to be clicked from the quick menu. I had to find out how to modify a game's Ren'Py code in order to add a keyboard shortcut for auto mode...
I'm a huge advocate for proper tea consumption. Unfortunately, most tea products one can find at grocery stores in the West are trash. Most people who have tried tea and didn't like it never had the opportunity to try anything other than grocery store-bought garbage (to say nothing about not...
Of the two options in the thread title, down the throat hands down. If you're gonna have sex, might as well cum without the use of your hands for once.
Cumming inside a pussy still clears, though.
You guys have already mentioned most of the things I dislike in VNs, so I'm just gonna bring up a less important but still pretty strong personal pet peeve of mine: Form-fitting clothes. I don't know what it is about Daz3D or Honey Select or whatever other program devs use to create renders, but...
Also, I roll my eyes every time I see games with a promiscuous female MC being advertised as "NTR"/"netorare". Unless her boyfriend/husband cheated on her despite her being loyal, that tag is categorically incorrect.
Yes, Inceton NTR division, I'm looking at you.
Netori is lowkey based. I very much enjoy the fantasy of stealing someone else's wife.
"NTR" is a stupid acronym because it can technically mean either netori or netorare, two very different things that appeal to very different people. I wish people would stop using it.
Some, and I mean SOME NTR I can get away with enjoying, because they inadvertently make it possible to identify with the bull; in other words, they can be treated as netori even though they're supposed to be netorare/netorase.
Scat, on the other hand, can whole-sale die in a fire. It's the one...
Seeing some censored games really hurts, because you can tell the art underneath the mosaic is god-tier, but it'll never see the light of day.
Same with JAV, really. Oh, Japan...
Of the ones in the poll, Pregnancy.
If I could choose any tag, I would go for the broader Creampie.
TBH I'm not the biggest fan of pregnancy, I just enjoy the procedure that precedes it. My hypothetical harem would all be on birth control until we all decided we're ready for kids.
A large number of game devs are guilty of this when they always give MC a massive dick and have all the girls act as if getting fucked with a normal-sized dick is not even worth it.
Technically that's not even their own point of view, they're just mindlessly parroting pornography's big dick...
The first one I played was Katawa Shoujo, way back when it was released. However it's worth noting that this didn't turn me into a visual novel fan. Several years later I stumbled upon Acting Lessons and Being a DIK, and that's what converted me.
