That shouldn't happen with a simple Ren'py VN. Have you seen if it connects to the Internet? There have been VN infested with malware recently. They usually run cryptomining using the player's PC. -

Ren'Py + VM = Memory Leaks?
You should try Oracle Virtualbox, it's free and I never had such problems (I usually do Win 10 and 11 host, Linux VMs). -
