There are only 2 thing to do in the game, explore and advance time. This "next chapter" seems pretty intuitive to me, and also the game gives you clues like "i should stay in my room today" or things like that. But anyway, now you can see the rest of the content. Have fun -

So, you are in the intro basically. Yes, you have to complete certain quest/plot points, and then you can "continue to next chapter" by touching a prompt in a certain time of the day. Will attach an image later. The progress at the begging may have change since I played it, but in chapter 2... -

The game has a built-in walkthrough, so its not much of a problem really. It is a little clunky to explore the manor, but you get use to it pretty quick. -

What do you mean a "bad start"? You mean "start" as in first updates or as in the game start is slow or having a bad pace? The games has TONS of content. The main plot is actually good (at least is better than many movies I have seen recently... but that is not a lot to ask for) -
