History is full of unforgettable moments, some inspiring, some terrifying, some downright mysterious. If you had the chance to step into a time machine and witness one event firsthand (without changing anything), which moment would you pick?
Would you watch the construction of the Great Pyramids, witness a legendary speech, explore a lost civilization, or maybe be there for a groundbreaking scientific discovery?
I’m curious to hear what moments resonate with people and why. For me, I think I’d want to see the moon landing live, just to feel the awe and hope in that exact moment.

Your turn!

Maybe ancient Rome when the collosium was opened

My 21st birthday with a list of winning lottery numbers. Might not change anything, but I would have a lot of fun while I was there.

The very first showing of Star Wars (not called A New Hope at that time) in 1977. A big theatre with a nice diverse crowd: kids, teenage stoners, sci-fi nerds, film buffs and everyone else. Just to watch minds get blown by one of the most game-changing and iconic films ever made.

Epstein Island...? Too soon?

Hmm experience first hand ..as an time travel ?.. well that would depends entirely on the 'type' of time travel you have in mind.

Are we talking multiverse theory where actions taken have no affect on your timeline.

What about paradoxes ? if i were to go back to period within my own timeline would I exist both as my young / older self and my current self at the same time, or would my mind takeover said younger/older me ? would i be able to return to my present with alterations in place ? would i have new memories ? etc etc

Theres more alternatives but my point stands .....it depends on the type of time travel.

Generally speaking ..if its purely as an observer, no effect on any time line regardless of 'type' of time travel ....
hmm..
We have written history ..so I wouldnt bother going back to see anything we already knew happened.
I also wouldnt bother going to see anything based on myth ...they are 'myths' for a reasons, would be a wasted trip. No need to see the 'truth' behind mythical people ..be it Jesus, or anyone.

however...

Things we dont know about ...thats worth seeing.
So any of the time periods pre Human. Be it the dawn of complex life on earth, or the Cretaceous period to see what Dinosaurs truly were like. Perhaps the extinction event that wiped them out. Or maybe during the last great Ice age.
Honestly any of those would be much choice.

Now if i got the oppotunity to travel forward in time .... i'd choose either 1000 or 2000 years forward. Long enough to see big enough changes ..but short enough to still expect to be able to pass as an average joe ... so no crazy 1,000,000 years in the future where its quiet possible i'd be facing evolved humans ..or extinct ones (no one) :P

The great Great Molasses Flood in 1919 how many people can say they died in molasses

Vive la Revolution Francaise.

Also to check if the involvement of my family against the nobility was real or just bullshit told to us down the generations.

21 people, according to Wikpedia:

probably whenever the colosseum fights were at their peak, simply because that sounds entertaining, or watching the first tests of atomic bombs to see if they're as awe inspiring as the people who witnessed them claim.

Well I did not see the very 1st showing, but I did go see Star Wars in 1977, and yes it was FANTASTIC. The only other movie experience that I has that was close was seeing the MASK , the crowd went crazy when the dog put on the mask :)

If I have zero effect on history and it's just spectating, either go way way back to pre modern man, a bit before the last Ice Age and enjoy a truly wild forest or go somewhere a bit actiony, somewhere in the Hundred Years war, maybe watch Joan of Arc do her thing in person, see if medieval times was really as bad as Game of Thrones.
If my presence as an effect and I'm in it for reals, maybe Victorian/Edwardian UK, probably the furthest I can still manage with my skills, see a lot of the world through the colonial empire, see Europe before WWI and all fancy opera houses and castles.

I have often wondered who built the Sphinx before the Egyptians found it and changed it. It is dated to be over 10,000 years old and probably had the head of a lion.

Do you have knowledge about that history when you go back in time or are you the same as the other people who's experiencing that event?
Cause knowing what will happen is different than experiencing it for the first time without knowing what's gonna happen. If it's the latter then the moon landing cause it would be a great experience to feel the excitement about humanity's advancement.

I saw it too but I was quite small at the time, enough that I don't recall how anyone else at the theater felt about it except me and my mom who took me (I loved it of course; she liked it but always preferred Star Trek which she watched in first run). I remember the audience reaction for ESB and ROTJ much better.

If we also assume that I had the power to go anywhere in the world on a whim, I'd like to see the construction of the pyramids. And I don't just mean the Egyptian, but all across the world. I want to know what compelled these cultures worldwide, some of which had never encountered or interacted with each other before, to construct these vast towering structures. Like, what was the mindset behind it? Just raw big dick energy? Some, to us, unknown practical design? For the vibes?

If not that, then any battle from semi-legendary sources, just to confirm the historicity and location of it. Like the Battle of Badon Hill or the Battle of Brávellir, both of which may or may not have actually happened, and whose locations and commanders have entered the realm of the legendary.
