Why is NTR such a divisive tag?

I've seen a couple game threads where several people are very vocally against NTR or NTS and seem either annoyed or just outright mad when a game touches on that fetish. I'm just curious if anyone out there who has that sort of reaction would be willing to elaborate. Also if NTR is your "go to" fetish, I'd be curious to hear why for that as well.

Made the same experience. Some are very sensitive to lose a person's affection and get humiliated, some others maintain twisted ideas of faithfulness even in lewd and illegal relations, prefering to build a deep marriage-like bond or even a harem fantasy and ticking out if someone dares to mess with it.

I don't think it sounds very healthy or relaxed, but in my game most girls are so spoiled, promiscuous or under constant abuse anyway, so for me it is rarely a thing to consider when i develop the game further, I just add the tag after facing some of these guys. For some it might make a difference if it is just NTR (the player is some kind of cuckold) or Netori (you are the one stealing the girls) or Netorase (the partner consents and it stops being a betrayal basically).

Anyway these guys get pissed if a game they think MIGHT be a harem game with the player having the girls for himself exclusively actually turns out to be a sharing game, which can be avoided by adding an NTR tag from the start. Even if betrayal of a partner or cuckolding is not actually a thing in the game, but others may be having "your" girls basically, any scenario of cheating might offend them, did I get it right?

Yeah I get that sentiment and why people could be adverse to having an interest in that style of story. Also it's an interesting perspective to be able to add as a game dev when you consider adding that tag just to get ahead of dealing with certain groups of people. To me it just seems disjointed to have this topic be the one that usually gets the most visceral reaction given the kind of site were on and the sometimes more extreme kinks that other games can hit on without such a severe backlash.

Thanks for the input!

>Why such divisiveness about the the fetish of some other man entering the sanctity of a relationship, and most times humiliating the self insert protagonist, in a porn media where the relationship build is the big element.
It is quite easy to understand.

I've been wondering the same thing myself, the anti-NTR sentiment is very vocal at times. I guess it's all about the degree of immersion you go through while playing games in general, I can see why it might be a deal-breaker though, more than many other kinks or fetishes. I have to admit, I still need to understand if any kind of sharing is considered NTR, or if there's specific circumstances when it becomes NTR (betrayal, humiliation, non-participation).

I personally don't necessarily enjoy it, I definitely avoid games entirely centered on NTR\cuckoldry\humiliation because it just doesn't do anything for me, but I can see how a dev or a writer can consider cheating or sharing a partner as part of their story, even just as an optional route. I don't mind that, but it mostly depends on the story itself, the characters, the sexual context etc.

The biggest thing for me is just when a dev adds it in the middle of development suddenly or tries to use some technicality to skirt having the tag applied to it.

I have no problem just not playing those kinds of games if they are properly tagged, just like I avoid female protag games. Just not into it so don't want to play it.

Being into a game and following it for an extended amount of time just to have the content added later just feels bad. Its like going to a steak place, sitting down and ordering but getting served chicken instead.

I dont much care for NTR but if thats your thing, go for it. I will play games that have the option for it and avoid it. no big deal to me.

I am of two minds about it. I generally play games as a fantasy so when the MC is being humiliated it feels almost personal (not yucking peoples yum about a humiliation kink though)
On the other hand sharing can be really fun so if it’s consensual I’m all for it.
I usually have to do some digging on the games with the tag to see if it’s going to be one way or the other

Sounds like you’ve had some bad experiences. What games has this happened to you in? (Who hurt you 😭)

Because fantasizing about being cheated on is really, really weird.

Any tag added in the middle that wasn't there from the start is bad, at least the ones that a lot of people don't like - besides ntr - futa, sandbox, etc.

I know it's different for other people, but for me personally it's betrayal, I can't stand cheating at all, it's a tiny bit easier on me if a love interest is cheating on their partner with the MC but even then I still don't feel all that good about it.

In a 1/1 relationship, I don't want any sort of outside interference in the relationship, even the potential cheating happening, both consensually and non-consensually spikes my anxiety, I want a relationship with no downsides, while that's not a thing in the real world, in fiction it's possible.

For a harem however, I'm a hypocrite through and through, while I can enjoy a story where 1 man has a bunch of women fawning over him at the same time with no jealousy, I prefer a group dynamic where all the women are Bi and love each other as much as they do the MC, they can fool around with each other if the guy is not around, just don't spread outside of the established group, I suppose it's kind of about trust, although some people might consider that a type of NTR because the main character isn't directly involved with the action all the time.

Now the thing that makes me a hypocrite is this, as long as the MC is the only real dick the harem interacts with I'm completely fine, I self insert hardcore in these stories, and I just don't want the MC to be compared to any other guy especially if that guy is a friend or a rival of any sort because that's something I have to deal with IRL.

For example, say the story has someone in the harem that's some sort of nympho, where they physically need to have sex with somebody or else bad things happen, and the MC is completely unavailable, I'd much rather them be with another girl already in the harem, than say hooking up with the MC's friend or rival, hell even if it's some no faced NPC that will never be apart of the story and it's only vaguely hinted at it just makes me kind of ill to think about.

I think too many people had crushes out of their league in middle/high school only to find out some jock pounded their crush to nirvana and back first time they were alone together for more than 5 minutes.

That's just conjecture though.

I do notice a huge number of people seem incapable of casting themselves as the aggressor/bull in NTR, but some of them are legitimately hard to do so in due to the fact that NTR has different categories under it, and 2 of those 3 primary categories are from the perspective of the original partner (the one getting cucked!).

Some off the cuff definitions for those who are unfamiliar.

Netorare - Primarily the victim's perspective (the original partner) who is having their lover stolen.

Netori - Inverse of Netorare. Focusess on the bull/aggressor (the one stealing the partner), often touting themes such as the thrill of conquest over the original partner.

Netorase - The OG cuckoldry. The original partner's perspective, but with consent. Think voyeurism and consensual sharing of ones partner. Can also be coupled with humiliation kinks and such as well.

My main problem with NTR is that people have different definitions of what NTR is. I was in a thread about an incest game where some Mensa candidate complained that the game had NTR in it be cause the MC's mother (who was an LI) "cheated" on her son with his father because Dad got her pregnant with the MC. The mental hoops some people go through just flabbergasts me some times.

Of course that made me want a story or game where the MC goes back in time to impregnate his mother and becomes his own father... And then I'm suddenly singing this banger:

Let me make it clear right away that I’m indifferent to these fetishes. And not just these ones — incest, for example, is also of no interest to me.Why do such squabbles arise? I think the reason is that some people take these games too seriously and are so jealous of their sets of binary code, which is what all the LI models in these games are made of, that the very idea that these models might belong to another identical binary character turns them into a mini‑Othello (you can’t strangle a digital Desdemona). To be honest, I feel sorry for the participants in these battles; it seems to me that they’re lonely and not very happy people who lack emotions in real life.
